Thursday Seeds | Eat Yer Bacon
Bacon is bad for you. Bacon is good for you. Bacon is meat and it also contains sulfites and too much sodium and back in the day before refrigeration, it was one of the only ways you could eat meat that wasn’t freshly killed.
Kill the animal. Kill the idea. Kill the grammar police and the spelling bee. Kill the switch. Kill the witch. Kill the fatted calf. Kill the hog. Swim with the hog. [insert picture of paradise island where pigs swim in clear blue waters.]
Lord of the Flies…. I just read that one. Somehow I escaped it as required reading in English class. Not the Illiad or Shakespeare, or the Bible, but this one. And there are amazing lessons that go with this one book that to look at it, should be a quick easy read.
It’s dark. It’s really dark and it deals with death. But it also deals with survival and the support of ideas and the mob mentality and how asleep the actual guardian was when he found them. Spoiler alert, they do get off the island. But not everyone goes at the same time.
Human nature is not always good. And this book reminds me of Cain and Able. How could he do that? But as details unravel in story form, you start to really get scared. How could any of us do that? A pair of glasses and an ugly nickname: piggy. That should be the worst of it. It’s not. At one point, that is what lightens the mood. You know it’s dark if that is the case. In fact at that point, you are so glad there is light that you could get fooled into not realizing how deep the darkness is.
Paradigms shift with looking at these truths in the face. We do have the energy to be kind to one another. Are we taking on that effort? Or are we so focused on what we think is important that will fade away in a few years and not be important at all? It’s so easy to do. Those that have seen time slip away fast as anything are probably not seeing a lot of hardship. Hardship brings milestones.
Some folks count their life events by births and birthdays but also hurricanes or hospital stays.
If we do anything on this earth, we should eat bacon together and be nice to each other.
If the worst thing I do is eat bacon? With every bite I’m supporting a system. A food system with methods that could help the human race or kill it. Split hairs if you want to. I’m just doing my best around here. Eat your own bacon.
