Thursday Seeds

Thursday Seeds | Get her to think

“Everything is a catchable throw.” [Epictetus]

It’s a way around the idea of being perfect. And I don’t know about you, but I am far from it. And with that said, there are skill sets that I do have that should be celebrated and also cultivated. I’m alive and so I should still grow. I can plant seeds on my own behalf. I think we call them #intensions .

I need to keep learning. It’s never a task that is done, it is constantly changing and moving just as I intake air. Change is not a bad thing, It means you are alive. No change equals DEATH.

I’m not ready for that. And while I may not fear it, I should be planning what happens until then because after then is no longer my project. It’s scope creep of the WORST KIND!!   Hahahahaha. ( I hope you choose to laugh with me!) #gethertothink

I’m not 37. Maybe you’ve picked up on that fact. The grey hair could be a give away but in reality, there are those of us that grey early that don’t choose to go the hair dye route. It’s a choice. You can decide which you want! Freedom.  And yet how does a 37 year old choose to celebrate their birthday?  Well if you know the author Ryan Holiday, then you know he’s been blogging since he was 10! Ha! Maybe, but he has posts out there from age 25 about his birthday learnings.

That is motivation. And while I can’t go back in time to blog like that, I can use it for inspiration in my current situation. It’s one of those things that makes you think.  #gethertothink. That first quote that I started from, was completely stolen from his 37th birthday post. #steallikeanartist

Maybe Hockey isn’t a bad thing. I watched a game this week where the team member honoring his commitment to not let the other team score, chased the puck down and swiped it away from the goal at the same time he himself slide into the goal.  Where was the other team’s goalie?  Not the point other than this teammate took the opportunity to get it done! #gethertothink

Puzzle me this

In reading a book about history in a region that you don’t know well, (Luckily there are maps! And I love maps!), I am stretched to learn names of locations and people that I’m not used to seeing.  How do you pronounce them? Where are they? Which map should I look at for context? And then if there is another language in the pages, have I looked up the words to find out what they mean?  Some authors will give you the meaning along with the word, but that isn’t always the case. Other authors assume you have a basic knowledge before you pick up the text. Other’s understand that the internet would get you there if you didn’t have another book to look at. Are there more editions of the book you are reading? Sometimes that is the wealth of an edit, clarity of locations. And all that is great, but sometimes, you just have to find it out for yourself and when you do, you have associated learning to knowing these words in another language.  #gethertothink   You could learn another language without a class?

And now she’s curious about this area. What does the terrain look like now? Google fingers to the walking, and she can see it. And this curiousness about the region could come up in conversation over dinner with a friend. And now that this friend knows what she’s reading, the friend might get curious also. Maybe they read the same book? Or maybe they are lead to a different source of learning on the same subject because of work. This is how curiosity becomes a contagion. A good one!  #gethertothink

In the idea of a mystery story, anyone who has ever played the game Clue, knows that red herrings are an important part of the story. They don’t hold the story or anything, but if they are missing, the story is not viewed in the same light. What if this deductive reasoning of understanding why people do things was viewed more like a puzzle? We don’t know which team this person is playing on. Should we try a yellow jersey on and see if that works? Maybe is glaringly doesn’t, and we set that one to the side, but purple is the color and it’s evident when set side by side with the yellow. Is this too abstract in thinking for you? #gethertothink

We all get in our habits. We sit and watch the same formulaic show night after night to relax. But what we need to do is swap those from time to time with a good documentary. Who is your hero that you don’t even know yet?  #gethertothink
