Thursday Seeds | The Fixin’s and the Dressing

The fixin’s and the dressing automatically makes me think of Holiday meals.

If you are Chinese or Asian, you may have just observed the Chinese New Year just yesterday.

What does that mean?

How many New Year’s Celebrations do we need?

We need this one and it’s probably to do with how many calendars are there as well as the question of what your culture is.

What is your culture? Are you open to more than what your parents taught you? And those Fixin’s and dressings: Have you seen the number of bowls and plates served in Korean food? It’s not just about sauces. There are bowls and bowls and sauces and noodles that can’t touch or it’s the opposite, all the ingredients go together in one large bowl. One that is typically larger than Americans would use for cereal or even pasta, unless they have serious Italian leanings.

The true point is comfort food. These things make us remember past celebrations. The context of stories shared over these meals is what makes our lives richer.

So bring on Valentine’s day and St. Patrick’s day and all of the days in the calendar that are yours. This is the spice of life. These times with family and friends is why we are here.

We have left off dressing in our holiday menu for years! Mac and cheese, stays.

pass it on!
