Martini Glasses, What color is your glass?

Old Martini glass that has survived!
New Cheap Martini glass that remains intact!

Martini Glasses came up while on the Indie Cafe with my peers. We talked about how we should blog about things that we like and we were encouraged to tell our story so to speak. I made a joke about martini glasses since one or two of us like to drink Martinis.  Back before kids and hubby and I had time to go on dates, we went to an event called Martinis and IMAX with his parents. We had a lovely time roaming the fernbank science center as we sipped or martinis and passed the time before our scheduled Movie start.  They had live music and free gifts and well it was a very fun night.  It gave me the idea to get Martini glasses for my Mother in Law for her Birthday.  The gift went smashingly! So much so that the very next Christmas, I got a set of Martini glasses for Christmas! They were very similar in style but of a different color.

I went through a terrible phase of breaking these glasses as I hand washed them. I broke all but one of the Christmas set.   When My in laws sold their house and business and packed up the RV to travel, they regifted their set of Martini glasses to us. Everytime I held them…there was a mantra of “don’t break them…don’t break them….don’t….” dern! Another one bites the dust! I am now down to only one of those Martini glasses. I’ve since gone to Wal-mart to replace my nice Martini glasses with the cheapest ones I could find!  Not ONE is broken! Amazing how that works isn’t it? I’m pretty well resigned to the fact that I’m only supposed to have one of those martini glasses…

What color is your Martini glass? Does it have a story? Please share! 😀

Happy Washing!

OMG! This is my most fav blog post ever! I am a true lover of the martini, only the classic version, and I have a collection of 12 glasses. Post Modern, hand painted, blue, with bangles and bobbles; all different, all one of a kind. :).

    4pm is Martini time. Sacred.

Thanks for this great post… made my New Years!

I’m a purist, my martini glasses are clear when they are empty and clear when they are full 🙂
Oh , sometimes they are a light pink when I drink a Cosmopolitan, which is basically a martini. I get a kick when a guy thinks they are a girly drink and then almost jokes when he takes a sip…. They ain’t for wimps!

I am a wimp~ don’t drink much, never acquired a good taste for alcohol~ but I do make a MEAN dacquiri~! Whether it be peach, strawberry or fuzzy navel~ they’re quite good~ sitting here this moring listening to the squirrels run across my house and deck~ I’ve made the mistake of feeding them shelled nuts from jars~ They are like crack addicts~ ARGH~every now and then one of them peeks in my door window looking for me~ they are freaking me out~! Happy New Year Ya’ll~!

    Thank you all for posting!

I’d LOVE a collection of nice martini glasses Deb…but as I posted, I’d not be trusted with them! lol It’s 5pm somewhere is a saying said many times at our house!

Jennifer, I am SO with you! You really don’t need color in the Martini glass for the drink to be good and the gal to look good drinkin’ it!

Sindy, All those drinks you mentioned could look fabby in a Martini glass!

    Cheers everyone!

    Great post Regina!

My favorite martini glasses look very similar to yours and I just received them for Christmas. A very close friend of mine and I tried making chocolate martini’s one night and they turned out just horrible! I used a recipe I had seen on food tv that called for powdered cocoa and the particular brand of cocoa I used did not dissolve in the alcohol. Anyway – it’s a funny memory that we share together.

This year for Christmas my friend gave me a chocolate martini set that she had found at a garage sale. The glasses that came with it look very close to the ones you posted above (old set) and they are now my favorite because the thought and memories that went into them means so much to me.

That is SO cool Marr! I’m excited to hear we have the same Martini glass! May we toast one day with them! I gave a good friend a stainless steel set and he talks all the time about being able to travel with them on a plane and not worrying about them getting broken! They work great for camping too! ~Regina

    Regina,

I’m embarrassed to say that I don’t own any martini glasses. This is probably because I’m not a huge drinker and our kitchen is very, very, very small so we have only necessities (coffee mugs, water glasses and wine glasses). I would love a set of those ultra expensive martini glasses that Red Envelope sells that sit in their own little ice bucket.

    But, I digress …

I’m dropping in to tell you that you won the random commenter contest over at http://www.soapqueen.com – email me with your address and I’ll get your box out to you next week! =)
