never mind the gas price – can you get it?
It’s been a bazaar few weeks since Ike left Texas here in Georgia. Energy crisis here we come! Most folks are struggling to find a place to buy gas, never mind the prices. I heard a snippet on the tv that there was a station selling gas at the lovely price of $8.00 per gallon. I hope that folks swooped over that station owner with the threat of gouging fraud! Anyhoo…Here’s to a better week this week regarding energy! Here’s a little link from 11alive news that might help you decide if the trip you are taking is worth it and a list of locations near you that ARE selling…

Organic products companies – Did you know?
This link was shared with me on twitter a few weeks ago. I found it very interesting. Sometimes when a company name is new, you tend to think it’s a fresh new start. Not always as evident from at the chart above. Having read The Big Green Purse and the theme of your dollars going to help the environment, does this information sort of water down the impact? It makes you wonder sometimes. Perhaps in some cases, the big companies that offer both regular products and organic products have the advantage of telling which products have the best profit margin and hopefully that will be the organic ones. (that’s what…

Dialog on Facebook with Shopnear about buying locally…
Twitter has been a wonderful networking tool for me. If you want to see what I’m up to, click here. Another user and myself took our connection on twitter to facebook. “Shopnear” has a discussion list on an important topic: Why buy local? (Click here to cut to the chase and see it) She asked the question and this was my first answer: -less $ spent on shipping -more suited to your own nature…ie water that you drink would be similar water that is used on your food. much like hard or soft water. -it just flat tastes better! -if you eat on seasons, you are less likely to eat…

White beaches and natural art!
This was a jelly fish that was on the beach of Destin, Florida for 10 minutes tops before the surf picked it back up and took it back to the sea. I wonder if the jelly made it? Would it sit on the beach for a time and then gasp for “air” as it was swooshed back into the sea? Nature…it’s just amazing! Can you imagine a homemade soap that had the marks of art like this? It’s in my head! Happy Washing! ~Regina

Indie Business Blog: Stop the FDA Globalization Act of 2008!!
This sort of legislation is parallel to that of small farmers in my opinion. Do we sit idly by and allow it? Nope! Diversity, local, and sustainable choices on food AND beauty products is what I’d like to see as a consumer much less a small business owner. Let me know how I can help. ~Regina Posted by: Regina June 24, 2008 at 01:32 PM Sign the petition by clicking the link and commenting…help us get the revisions that are good for consumers AND small business owners. Pickensplan sure breezes thru nice!
From watching the introduction to this plan on their site, THIS is the kind of talk that I’m really glad to hear! Green Energy. No, it won’t be easy, but YES it is doable and will get us through for a bit until we get our wits about us. Why do we need so much oil? Do we really? Those answers aren’t listed. But a practical stop gap measure could help us focus on the other important questions. We are a nation of smart people. We can come up with good, thought through answers to our problems. We can create solid ideas on oil dependence and at the same time, help…

Essential oils and the environment
I came across an interesting article today as I surfed through my normal blog update feeds. This one caught my attention because it has to do with essential oils which are what I use in my soaps almost exclusively. I have/will be making a few exceptions here and there and they will be CLEARLY marked as such. If you look at my products page, I have a list of products coming soon. Georgia Peach is one that will not be from essential oils. (soap bars for sale on site soon! made, just curing…) It has been my observation that most fruit EO (essential oils) do not hold well in soap. Lemon and…
