Herbal tea is good for your new seedlings!
I saw this headline on anย email from Organic Gardening: “Herbal tea for healthy seedlings”.ย It got my attention as I have been saving my tea leaves from past tea brewing for another project.ย What has happened is that I have way more discarded loose tea than I need for that project. To hear that my tea can have yet another use besides compost makes me want to learn more! “To prevent damping-off from killing seedlings, try watering them with chamomile tea. Make a strong tea with 3 teaspoons of dried chamomile in 6 cups of boiling water. Let the tea steep and cool. Water the seedlings two or three…

Joy of Sweet Potatoes
In our family, we have rediscovered the joy of sweet potatoes! I think it started out with an invite to a parent’s house where baked sweet potato was served instead of a russet baked potato.ย It was so yummy that I’ve been adding sweet potatoes to several of my main stay dishes since then.ย Did you know that sweet potatoes do fabulous in turkey soup? Well they do!ย We also cut up small potatoes and add a sweet potato to the mix when we saute potato slices as a side dish. So with all this talk about the joy of sweet potatoes AND it being prime planting season, it was…

If you've been wondering…spring planting!
Hey there Dr. Flower readers! Beginning to wonder where I am? If you follow me on twitter, then you know that the end of last week, I was in New Orleans for a long weekend. We had a wonderful time! This time of year is prime planting season!ย Since I kicked up my heels watching fabulous music last weekend, I had to bust a move in the garden, at the school, and at the vet as the kitty is still not completely healed.ย By the way, we saw that…

Sweetwater 420 Festival, an Earth day celebration
Earth Day…Posh! EVERYDAY is EARTH DAY folks! Jump on the green bus everyone let’s recycle on one day in April! Can you sense the sarcasm?ย That is how I view some of the Earth Day proceedings that I hear about over the internet via social media.ย It just seems hollow to me.ย That was my thinking before I got on the bus (literally) and connected with committed environmental folk at the Sweetwater 420 Festival held this past weekend in Chandler Park. If you live in Atlanta, go ahead and put 420 fest on your calender as a “must go” for next year! I took my daughter to the festival and…

Guard against Esophageal Cancer, Mind Tea & Coffee Temps
There is nothing like a newly brewed pot of herbal tea. My favorite way to brew tea is using bulk tea in a brew basket. That way, I can blend tea from the garden with other teas I might come across in shopping with ease. The temperature of the water during brewing, makes a huge difference with the flavor of the tea. You can make the best cup of tea if you know the best brewing temperature for the leaves you are using. I found on this site the following: As a general guideline, green teas taste best when brewed at temperatures between 140ยฐF – 185ยฐF. The grade of the…
