Last Thursday's Atlanta Botanical Garden Lecture

Some days you just need a good excuse to travel downtown into the City!  Atlanta is a beautiful city of trees. Sometimes it’s hard to stop everything and take the time to drive down.  I’ve just joined the Atlanta Botanical Garden to do just that!  This lecture series is one of several nudges to do so.  As I learn more about the gardens, I’m sure I’ll understand a bit why they call this lecture a part of the Alston Lecture series.  What drew me to the lecture?  Two main things. It was free and the topic was plants as medicine.  A talk on plants…does it send you into the idea…

Things going on at Dr. Flower headquarters…

If you look at the picture of the week, you’ll see a line up for fruit bushes purchased on sale that will be planted in a minimum of 3 backyards and one Farm!  We are just a little bit excited to do some landscaping with the fabulous plants that are antioxidant producers! Will these lovely organic homegrown fruits end up in Dr. Flower’s All Natural Handmade soap? I’m betting NOT! They will however, nourish those that make these all natural goodies. What do we have? Blueberries, Raspberries (red and fall producing gold), thornless blackberries, kiwi, and figs! Chances are that you might see a few updates on the landscape…

Milk- How close is yours from the cow?

Have you ever tasted non-homogenized milk before? We purchased some at the Norcross Farmer’s Market. We chose 2% being pretty sure that  whole milk would be too large a change in taste. The family seems ready to go back to their “normal” organic homogenized milk.  The neat thing is that we had a chance to try it! I’ve always wondered how milk that has not been over processed would taste. I think it’s great in baking and other dishes that call for milk. Why was I baking? We had several guests over this past weekend to celebrate kidlet’s birthday.  It was neat to pass the jug of milk around for everyone…

I went to the market and didn't take one picture!

Yesterday afternoon found me headed south toward town to go to the Norcross Farmer’s Market that is held every Tuesday at 4pm-8pm until end of October.  This was my first time to this market.  I’m in love with the fact that these are popping up all over the city and that the attendance is increasing for both customers and vendors.  If you’ve seen my blog posts on food as of late, this farmer’s market culture has the potential to bring our food chain back in balance one farmer’s market at a time… What it’s going to take is a community, vendors, and customers. It’ll be an ongoing process that has the potential…

    Little things for your guests…

If you haven’t guessed it by now, our family is hooked on Food Network shows. We watch many of the shows that come from this network because for the most part, there is little worry that the subject matter will be upsetting for a “young lady in training”.  When you have young ones, suddenly your attitude shifts regarding what is OK and not OK to view over the tellie.  This summer, we spent a lot of time watching the Next Food Network Star.  It’s a little bit funny as we are not TV reality type folks in the least.  It was very novel years ago when MTV threw a bunch of 20…

Try this iphone geek crafty folk!

Well, you knew it…I’ve been telling you in subtle and not so subtle ways that I’m a soap geek.  Not only for soap!  I had to stop everything and find cardstock when I happened upon this CRAFT: blog post in my reader.  A do it yourself paper iphone dock?? I’m there! I used 11olb card stock for this.  It seemed like it would hold…but as the iphone was gently placed on the newly cut and folded dock, nay. It bends in the back. Then I began to wonder if my iphone case was the culprit. Off the clear case went!   Side note:  I have a clear case that is the…
