Just Say No To Name Calling!
There’s an author that has impacted my life with MANY of her books: Madeleine L’Engle. She has written across many categories of books ranging from her famous Newberry Award winning children’s book, A Wrinkle in Time to a Two-Part Invention based on her loving marriage. This lady tells it like it is. No spoon feeding, mind you, you do have to think. I just read a blurb I’d love to share from Glimpses of Grace. She makes a stand on customers that I agree with wholeheartedly! “…perhaps the most dehumanizing thing of all is that we have allowed the media to call us consumers- Ugly! NO! I don’t want to…

It tastes good. REALLY good! It was created special. It’s Not from a production line stamped out for the masses, but just for you! Why? Because YOU are special! You are worth the extra time and effort to come up with the basic ingredients, research a recipe, and commit to the time it takes to create food as art that is homemade pie. Today I learned from the gal who inspired me to make homemade pie, that the no nonsense lady that inspired her to make homemade pies will be attending our monthly Girls Night Out event in a few weeks. YaYY! I’m excited to meet the inspiration agent that begat…

Ten neat things about the Garlic plant…
Ten neat things that I’ve discovered or rediscovered about garlic. Garlic sauteed in olive oil is a comforting smell in our home. This plant is packed with legends, stories, science and more. Some of this information you know, some facts you don’t and maybe there’s a few that you’ve forgotten. Legend is that it will repel vampires….what it really repels is bacteria, fungi, and yeast. Yayy! Garlic cloves peel easier if you smash them first with the flat side of a knife. Wash hands with any stainless steel kitchen tool to remove the odor of garlic. Garlic is one of the main ingredients in the four thieves blend that is…

Try Ginger Pork with short brown rice
Hey there Dr. Flower Blog Readers! I thought I’d share the recipe that I used for Ginger Pork. If you read here often, you know that one of our favorite Dr. Flower motto’s is “you are what you eat and also what you put on your skin.” Ginger, garlic, fresh vegetables are what’s good for the soul. Since the weather outside is getting cooler, cooking these lovelies is naturally more appealing and satifying. I’ve done stir fry dishes before but this one is a keeper! Mu Pad King (stirfried Ginger pork) on a bed of short brown rice hit the spot! I used what I had. I don’t keep oyster sauce…

Last Thursday's Atlanta Botanical Garden Lecture
Some days you just need a good excuse to travel downtown into the City! Atlanta is a beautiful city of trees. Sometimes it’s hard to stop everything and take the time to drive down. I’ve just joined the Atlanta Botanical Garden to do just that! This lecture series is one of several nudges to do so. As I learn more about the gardens, I’m sure I’ll understand a bit why they call this lecture a part of the Alston Lecture series. What drew me to the lecture? Two main things. It was free and the topic was plants as medicine. A talk on plants…does it send you into the idea…

Things going on at Dr. Flower headquarters…
If you look at the picture of the week, you’ll see a line up for fruit bushes purchased on sale that will be planted in a minimum of 3 backyards and one Farm! We are just a little bit excited to do some landscaping with the fabulous plants that are antioxidant producers! Will these lovely organic homegrown fruits end up in Dr. Flower’s All Natural Handmade soap? I’m betting NOT! They will however, nourish those that make these all natural goodies. What do we have? Blueberries, Raspberries (red and fall producing gold), thornless blackberries, kiwi, and figs! Chances are that you might see a few updates on the landscape…
