Homecoming

Sentiment,

Laughter, humor

History,

HIS story.

Remembering stories rarely told

With a trigger or a jolt to the brain.

Singing next to a voice from the past,

Watching the next generation interact,

Swapping tall tales or recipes,

Being patient for the appearance

Of an old memory or name on the tip of a tongue.

Is the hair the same? Rarely

Same age? Never

Same dress? Sometimes

Same smile? Almost always

A journey with sections walked or ridden,

Sharing of faith with both smiles and tears.

Baptisms, Mission Trips, Graduations,

Weddings, Funerals and Fellowship dinners.

All these things stones in the road,

that might be looked at once a year.

Some years the road is viewed too closely,

Other years the road is ridden on hard

With lots of dust kicked up,

Mud spatter, puddles jumped in or over,

Or maybe

Soft ambling, barefoot, no dust at all.
