I love my cats. These Kat Kats get impatient if I don’t make the motions of getting their goodies. And they have me trained too. I can either get to the door where the food is, or I can get to the door where the food is faster. Otherwise they are on me. The “don’t forget” neon sign is on them pretty quickly and I am herded to the right place in the house: the kitchen.
The animals that know when you need them. Here’s to them. You are sad or feeling anxiety? My cats pick up on it and come immediately unless their face is in the food bowl. Give them a minute, they’ll finish quickly and be right with you. They curl up, they follow, they rub legs, and look up into my eyes. The moment they do, chemical reactions happen for them but also me. There is a release of oxytocin that should ease some of the tension and burden of the feelings welling up.
Just in the reminder of it, in the remembering of it, the another hit of oxytocin can happen, though there could be a measure of “you let it happen” then. You have to think it all through, hold your mouth right, take a deep breath, and just love. I think you can hold it back if you push it down. Don’t do that. This is the good stuff!!@
If it has happened to you one time, then you can always go back to it. It can be your own private time capsule. The sad is about to come over you? This is the memory to return to. Going to the beach and listening to ocean waves is nice. You can do that one too but the love of your cat, it’s not to be brushed off. There is power in it. The power of love.
Why do you keep old things? Chances are they hold value. And it’s possible that it’s not monetary value as much as the memories that they can trigger. You got that bank for your birthday. An old friend you don’t see as often gave you that candle. These are mini time capsules that you can pop with the trigger of a memory and they help you get through your days.
If you are mourning someone you’ve lost, memories of them can also hold you back, but only if you let them. The trigger of emotions are what I call mines in a field. Give yourself time and room to feel your feelings. With practice, you can recognize what is going on and move through them. Your attitude toward your memories is almost as important as what you do next in life. Keep the good ones close by.
