Colorado's new bill = baby out with bathwater…

I could write my version of this but instead, I’ll be brief.  On Monday, Colorado is about to pass  a bill that has all of the good intentions of providing safe cosmetic products to its citizens yet falls short on thought out reasoning of specifics.  Broad brush strokes only create a nightmare of litigation for small businesses everywhere that don’t have time, money or resources to redefine everytime, every law suit.  Our economy is a wreck gang. Let’s not punish the few sectors of American business that are still hiring!!  I’d love to see state and federal folks actually approach citizens and small business owners for their opinion before blazing a trail in the opposite direction of where they really want to go.

If you read Anne-Marie’s descriptions, salt and water for that matter are just as dangerous at certain levels  as some of ingredients this proposed legislation broadly bans.  Read her post here: “You can die from Salt too”

If you are interested from a more business approach of what this means for the cosmetic industry, Donna Marie Coles Johnson has an excellent article here:  “Colorado Safe Personal Care Products Act

If you want to know what an herbal educator and PH.D degreed scientist thinks about the issue, Cindy Jones can tell you here.   By the way, one of her businesses is actually TESTING products for the cosmetic industry.  Heaven forbid the legislators in her own state of CO ask her opinion and others like her!

If you want to know a bit more of the specific essential oils that will fall within this broad brushstroke, you can read Robert Tisserand’s article here: Tunnel vision

These are a few of the folks that have weighed in on this issue. We’d be here all day to put them all on here.

Bottom line, let’s think out the bill before it’s passed, Colorado.  We commend you for wanting to lead Our Country to safer cosmetics but let’s not throw the baby out with the bathwater.

It’s time to re-think and revise this bill.  Furthermore, if each State of our fair country must create their own legislation for safe cosmetics, has the federal level really does it’s job? Food for thought. (Hope it’s safe! 😉  )

Happy Washing!

Thanks for helping to spread the word about this bill.

Today, the bill did not make it out of committee but there will be other potentially poorly-worded (but well-meaning) bills out there to be vigilant about. It’s great to know that you’ll be there to spread the word about.
