Confessions of a garden geek!

As an avid organic gardener, I love to shop for compost pails! Yep, I come by that garden geek title quite honestly!

Compost pails come in several sizes and really many colors also. Copper, stainless steel,  plastic in any color of the rainbow, ceramics, and sometimes a combination of these. Why you can even get eco-friendly with a bamboo model!

MEOW! even Purple! Google will let you search images by color now!

You can get compost bags make of cornstarch that breakdown with the compost or carbon filters so you don’t have to worry about smells, or even fruit fly traps made of soap stone to pull the flying Mellie bugs out of your kitchen air. (You aren’t dumping quick enough if you need these! ) In a perfect world, we all have time to dump compost after every meal. If it gets done once a day, we are doing well!

If you saw the cool compost video in a previous blog post here, then you would know that these compost queens recommend stainless steel as the odors do not linger and they are easy to clean with water.

Some of the plastic compost pail models will easily mount on the back of the cabinet door under the sink making room for counter space. They may even have a place to stash a carbon mat to keep the smells tidy.

Others are meant for the counter top so that you can dump kitchen scraps into them as you chop.

My very favorite compost pail could double as a small trashcan complete with foot pedal so that you can step, dump, and move on. The capacity is large enough to hold a slew of watermelon rinds without a hitch.
