Crayons in the dryer, RUN!

Crayons in the dryerYep, kidlet is 6 years old and it’s happened to me!  I’ve read about mom’s concerned about how to clean up a crayon mess from the washer and dryer as well as how to get the crayon stains out of ALL of the cloths in the dryer. It’s one of those things you read and say ewww.. Glad that hasn’t happened to me!

Then…IT HAPPENS!!    photo.jpg <- The “clue” as my kid called it…burnt orange.

It’s murphy’s law working with us moms that it happens and/or is discovered at the most inopportune moments like when there are new clothes in the load.  But let’s face it, is there really a good time for it? *sigh*

Well as I pulled out my trusty google search, I was pleased and gladly not surprised to find a cleaning recipe for not only the cloths that are now full of crayon stains, but also recommendations on how to clean the now soiled with crayon dryer!  Woohoo! Calgon clean me up! (literally as Borax is one of the ingredients in the recipe!) So here is my way of spreading the word on what to do when it happens at your house.  I used to think, I’m too smart for that! Well we all get busy and don’t always check those pockets, especially when we have help with the laundry!

To clean the crayon soiled clothes – go Here

I used the “This Is The One” recipe:
2 Maximum load scoops of liquid Tide
1 Cup of Mule 20 Borax (powder)
1 Cup of Liquid Shout
2 scoops of OxyClean
1 Cup of White Vinegar

You need a damp rag and some comet.  This link has great before and after pictures!

Happy washing!

Sindy, I’m not sure I know what goof off is! …as for ironing, it’s a good idea for that blue skirt but I gotta tell ya I draw the line at ironing socks!

Y’all are too funny. My son is 17 and I don’t recall having this happen to us. We had other issues, like plenty of toys and other things flushed down the toilet….was on a first name basis with the plumber!

Now I’m faced with my geriatric husband leaving pens in his shirt pockets…I use hairspray for that but it really doesn’t get stains out of fabric that well. Doesn’t really matter too much because hubby wears his shirts till they are threadbare-I’m always looking for excuses to throw them away! ain’t i a stinker? lol

This works great….new winter coat 1st time washed at my mother-in-laws…what a mess 5 crayons in the pocket. That made it to the dryer. She even gave me the money to buy a new one. I tried this reciepe and presto new again. Also works for those messy halloween make-up fiascos.
