Thursday Seeds | The Surface Area of Luck

What is surface area anyway? If Ice cubes take a long time to melt and you need it to go quicker, one way is to make them ice chips. There is more surface area for the ice to become water. Another important thing to keep in mind about that surface area is that there is space involved. If this is say, Ice cubes and shaved ice, it might not be a quick melt down because shaved ice is usually packed together with less space than ice cubes.

If you have a tall and narrow glass of water, the surface area is smaller. Iced tea spoons might be needed.

Another surface area example could be regarding Broad Data sweeps. It’s great you have all this data to work with…but now what are you going to do with it? How can you tell what is the relevance of it, how can it help you? The context of small sweeps of data with Annotations might actually serve a purpose better. So the question is how to get from this large sweep of data and niche or narrow it down for this small look. What is the tool that is best that would give the same effect as a microscope? You can’t microscope the whole lake, but from where do you get your samples?

Since we are in a science side of things with surface area and water data, what about medicines and timing? If you take medicine orally, then to get the medicine to the bloodstream takes time for it to be processed by the stomach. That could take precious time for it to work. A faster method is to the blood stream fast with a shot. And even faster is via the location of the medical shot towards the heart, if the medicine needs to heart to pump blood, etc, etc.

Surface matters…

On the subject of working on a problem, the more people who know about it, the possibility for more help. With all of the different view points of folks, the problem can be looked at in multiple ways. New ideas can come out of a sharing of knowledge. The flip side to that is that everyone knows your business AND they have the possibility to make assumptions that may or may not be correct. But help arrives that the moment you need it. You have a working theory on what is going on and another someone gives you a tool to know for sure. The theory is proven, you can now know it and move forward. Without help, it could have taken longer. And we are back to the example of timing and medicine.

And so there is some luck involved. The blog post was supposed to go out on Thursday. But you feel the yuckies coming on. Your hope is that it’s just a summer cold. But the symptoms start telling you it’s much more than that. A fever shows up. You already are thinking the worst. Your neighbor arrives with a covid test and another friend tells you that one should be in your medicine cabinet waiting for you, just in case. These are good ideas. The test is taken and sure enough, you have Covid. Instead of dread, it’s a pick me up. Why? You know what this is. You can work the problem. It’s no longer ambiguous. And while sussing out how you got it may be hard or easy, the symptoms are now easier to work with. You can give yourself the right medicine, get to the doctor as needed and feel healthy in a shorter period than ever.

We all know that Covid can be mild or difficult. Immune system building is a huge part of my lifestyle. (oops I wasn’t gonna tell you it’s me. Maybe you already suspected.) Quarantine is 24 hours without a fever. I haven’t had a fever since Thursday. But let me tell you, I’ve felt like warmed over roadkill since. I ain’t going anywhere! Ha! I joked that my trips would be to the kitchen. Saturday is the earliest I’ve felt like venturing out. Thank God for neighbors and friends! I think the 5 day stay at home suggestion is probably a better route of quarantine myself. But if I had to go out, I still keep a mask in my purse. I’d have that thing on. And I promised myself that if I didn’t feel better by Monday, I’d get myself to a doctor. It’s Saturday and I already feel better. Unless things take a turn, I’ll be the clear.

I’m gonna keep my luck running by using my energy for good cleaning and stay home until sometime next week. it’s not like there isn’t plenty of work to do. If you wondered where I am, this is it. Stay healthy and wash your hands whenever possible!
